Style Show Knitting Crochet Patterns, Coats Clarks Book 172

This booklet, Style Show, Fashions to Knit and Crochet is by Coats and Clark's.  It is their Book No 172 and features use of their Red Heart Yarns.  In other words, purchase this book for the wonderful patterns, and then buy their yarn to work the patterns.     Although one would expect equal billing between knit and crochet based on this title, all but two of the patterns are knitting.

Enjoy the ....
Crochet Knitting Patterns, Coats Clarks Book 172

Style Show - Fashions to Knit and Crochet
The booklet begins, as usual, with patterns from the book gracing the front cover.

Knitted Ribbed Shell Pattern, Vintage 1960s

Misses Shell is knit in Knitting Worsted or Super Fingering Yarn.  It features a back neck closure and nice striped pattern stitch.

Boys Striped Sweater Knitting Pattern, Stable Boy

This is the knitted Stable Boy Sweater, for her.   It's a loose fitting pullover with ribbed v-neckline and edges.

Here's the Argyle Knit Shell (also shown on the front cover in color).  The pattern is worked to a full page chart in a primary and three contrast colors of Fingering Yarn.

Knitted Two Piece Suit Pattern, Plaid Jacket Pleated Skirt

B-597 The Plaid Knit Suit, in the remarkable Jackie O style.   This is, of course, a two piece suit, top and skirt, double breasted effect with the collar matching the skirt.

Knitting Pattern Mohair Dress

B-598 Knitted Mohair Dress calls for Mohcora yarns, which I'm assuming from the dress pattern, is semi-varigated.  (Of course, equally wonderful in a solid).  This attractive dress, with three quarter length sleeves, waist band and roll collar is sized 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18.

Knitted Pullover Pattern, Color Block
B-599 Dolman Knit Sweater with a nice mix of color blocking going on, as well as the Cable front band and high turtleneck collar.   This pattern is sized 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18.

B-600  Knit Coat, Scarf and Dress Pattern, is a basic straight dress with short sleeves. Wear it casually, or dress it up with a scarf or pearls.   The matching coat can be seen on the back cover - on the left.  The pattern set is sized  10, 12, 14, 16 and 18

Big Needle Crochet Pullover Pattern, Flower Applique

B-602 Crochet Ski Sweater with floral Motif.  This sweater is an easy crochet with Big Needles.  The flowers and leaves are worked separately and sewn in place.

The back cover shows us the Knit and Crochet Coat and Scarves not shown above with their respective dress patterns.

Overall, this is a nice book of rather classic designs.   A fair number of wardrobe additions to be made here.  All of the patterns are worked in Knitting Worsted, and range from beginners to intermediate designs.

Hope you enjoyed the book review.   Thanks for dropping by.

Knitted Cap Free Pattern, The Top-Notcher with Fringe, Vintage 1960s

This knitted ski type hat is officially called the Top Notcher.

Easy Free Cap Knitting Pattern

This hat was one of the featured patterns in Coats and Clark's Book 160 called Fashion Favorites to Knit and Crochet.    I think the fringe on the top gives it an extra touch of fun.  I've attached a copy of the actual pattern, from the book, to this post should you like to stitch it up!

Happy Knitting, and thanks for dropping by,
Lorrie

Shells Sweaters Knitting Crochet Patterns, Coats Clark Book 160, Fashion Favorites

In 1965, Coats and Clark's put out Book 160, which they titled Fashion Favorites to Knit and Crochet.  This booklet was part of their Red Heart Yarns Promotions.    It contains 15 Patterns, all but three are knitting.

Ready to journey through the book ?

Fashion Favorites to Knit and Crochet
These lovely ladies skated and skied right in for the photo shoot !  They are giving you a preview of patterns to follow.

This is the same blue striped beauty you just saw above.  It's the Patterned Pullover and Helmet Hat..  It's easy to knit in these stripes ... the sweater is worked from side edge to side edge, in stockineete stitch, and the ribbing at the lower edge is added later.  This sweater is knitted and sized 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18.
This is the Ski Bunny Sweater and Hat special.  The fishermen from Fair Isle would have trouble recognizing their traditional patterns in this up-to-the-minute (remember, 1965) sweater !   This is not for beginners.  This is a knitting pattern and sized Small (10/12), Medium (14/16), Large 18/20).    This pattern, in color, is shown on the center woman in the front page photo.

This young woman skated in to show us ... Cut a Fine Figure in the Figure Eight Sweater and Head-Hugger. The crocheted puff stitches form the diamond pattern on this pretty pullover, which is then embroidered with as many flowers as you desire.  (Note: A pattern is not included for the flowers).  This Crochet Pattern is sized Small (10/12), Medium (14/16) and Large (18/20).

An easy motif, plus 1-2, results in this dainty shell.  This Shell is crocheted and sized Small (10/12), Medium (14/16) and Large (18/20).
This pattern is available as a Free Patterns in a separate blog post

This sweater is Big, Bulky and Beautiful.  The wide-open cables form a lattice affect on this easy-going sweater, with raglan sleeves and a deep ribbed neckline.  It is worked up from the lower edge.  This Raglan Pullover is knitted and sized 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18.

This hat is called the Top-Notcher, and the fringe at the top is just downright fun.   Knit it in one color, as shown, or stripe it in mad colors, or perhaps, use varigated yarns.
This pattern is available as a Free Patterns in a separate blog post

As dashing a design as you'll ever wear (as emphasized by the expression on our model), this elegant cape it knitted of Red Heart Sayelle.  If desired, it may be lined in a contrasting or matching color .. you'll need 3 years of 36" fabric.  This knitting pattern is sized Small (10/12), Medium (14/16) and Large (18/20).

This is the Shell Trim Crocheted Vest. A simple single crochet pattern stitch results in this attractive texture, and the Shell stitch edge is right in style.  The pattern is Sized 10/12, 14/16, 18/20, 42/44.

Here is a great looking Ribbed and Ruffled Blouse / Sweater.   The great neckline ruffles are nicely matched with the softer ruffles at the wrists.  This is a knitting pattern, sized 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18.

This is the Ripple-Knit Two-Piece Dress.   It's todays (1965) version of great-grandmother's afghan.  This is a knitting pattern and sized Small (10/12), Medium (14/16) and Large (18/20).    You can see it in color on the back cover.

And, last but not least, is this Kntted Lacy Shift.   Mauke it in black and you'll have the equivalent of that 'Little Black Dress'.   Dress it up and wear it in the evening, or dress it down and wear it as-is.   (IMO ... the gloves are overkill!).    This knitting pattern is sized 120, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20.  This pattern is also shown on the back cover.

The End of Photo-Journey of Book 160

I particular like the names on the hats; in addition to the usual cap, we have a helmet and a head-hugger.  Now, maybe these are not new names, but I've not heard them before.     I also adore the way these booklets portray their models.   A very serious look for a dashing Cape, a smiling girl in skates for the flowery sweater.    But, how do you think large shaggy dogs line up with the last two dress patterns?

Knitting Crochet Patterns, Mohair Fashions, Sweaters Shawls Coats & Clarks Book 147

This vintage pattern booklet by Coats and Clark, Book 147, titled Mohair Fashions to Knit and Crochet, contains a nice assortment of sweaters and coats.    This booklet was issued in 1964 as part of their C&C Red Heart Mohcora promotion.     All 12 patterns are outer wear, sweaters, coats, shawls, for both men and women, as well as one beret.   Most of the patterns are knitting; 2 are crochet; one requires both.      Here, let me show you.

Mohair Fashions To Knit and Crochet
The front cover gives us a color preview of a sweater and a coat.

This is patterns pictured on the cover.   We have a crocheted coat, sized Small, Medium and Large, as well as a Knitted Cardigan (with the marvelous collar), that is also sized Small, Medium and Large.

This Womans Knitted Pullover is lovely piece !   It is Sized 10, 12, 14, 16 & 18.   The pattern also references a separate pattern for a womans dickey, which, I'm assuming, is the big of teal blue we see at her neckline.
The Mans Knitted Cardigan is an equally distinguished sweater, sizes Small (36/38), Medium (40/42) and Large (44/46).

The 'Turtle Neck' on this pattern is certainly not enough description for this marvelous neck/collar.   It's also a Cable Pullover.   It is Knitted and Sized 10, 12, 14, and 16.
The Crocheted Shawl is perfect for those 'a little bit cool' evenings!   To complete it, you also need a couple snap fasteners or buttons.   The shawl in one-size.

The Boat Neck on this Man's Pullover Sweater gives it a refined look.    This is a knitting pattern and is sized for chest 38, 40, 42 and 44.
The womans stole is soft and delicate in appearance.   It is also knitted and is one-size.

This set is also shown on the back cover in color.   The womens knitted Channel Jacket is sized 12, 14, 16 and 18.
The mens V-Neck pullover is also knitted and sized for chest 38, 40, 42 and 44.

Here's a classic duo; a coat and a cardigan.     The V-Neck, front buttoned cardigan is knitted, with crocheted edges.    It is sized small (30-32), medium (34-36), large (38-40).

The knitted Raglan Coat (with marvelous collar) is also sized small (30-32), medium (34-36), large 38-40).

This is a knitted V-Neck Pullover Sweater.   The varigated yarn used in this sweater forms its own design as you knit so that each sweater is truly an original design.  Note - the sleeves continue up to form the yoke.   This pattern is sized 10, 12, 14, 26 (for bust sizes 30 - 36).

The only hat in the book makes an appearance here in the stylish piece - the Knitted Beret.
And, on the back page, a color photo of the above mens sweater and womens jacket.

Overall, at least in my opinion, a really nice group of sweater, coat and shawl sweaters are contained here.   No fluff projects to fill the pages, classics start to finish.

Square Crochet Doily Free Pattern A390 Wildflowers

One, of course, cannot tell by this black and white picture, but this doily, A390 Wildflowers, is an offwhite color with pretty little pink centers.    It is, obviously, square and the dimensions are 10" x 12".   This crochet pattern is from Coats and Clarks Book 136, Copyright 1962.

All the pictures and brief description are included in a blog post here at Todays Treasure Shop Talk.  I like to offer at least one pattern from each booklet I list in PDF format in the free patterns section, and this is my chosen beauty from this book.

Here's the pattern.  Create a marvelous doily !

Doilies Pattern Book, Coats and Clarks Book 136

This crochet Pattern Book from Coats and Clark's has a great assortment of Doilies.  I was thinking earlier, as I was scanning this book, does anyone use Doilies anymore, when I realized they must .... there is such a huge vintage market for them.    And then, tonight, when out to dinner, a woman walked by who had a most marvelous crochet doiley work on the front of her dress .... stunning.    But, there I go again .... sidetracked.

There's a nice assortment here.  Some big, some small and a few quite tall ... the ruffles that is !

Here's photo-journal of Coats & Clarks Book 136, Vintage 1962.

Doilies Crochet Pattern Book No 136 from Coats Clarks
The cover gives a a color look at two of the patterns.

A-390 Wildflowers:  This beauty is shown in color on the back cover.   Each motif measures
 2"; the mat is 10" x 12".

Vintage Tatted Doily Pattern, Queen's Lace

A-396 Spring Crocus:  Doily measures 15" in diameter, excluding ruffle.

Vintage Crochet Doily Pattern, Forest Pool, Coats Clarks
A-397 Forest Pool:  This smaller beauty measures 10.5" from point to point in diameter.

Fluffy Ruffles Crochet Doily Pattern A399
A-399 Fluffy Ruffles:  A lot of WOW factor going on with this doily, measuring 13.5", excluding the ruffle.

And, of course, the back cover with three of the doilies in color.

Somehow I managed to 'not' get one of the doilies scanned, A-398 Chrysanthemum; my apologies.    Not knowing how to crochet, and knowing little about doilies, other than the one I'm collecting for my mixed media work, I find myself wondering .... why are dimensions listed without the ruffle.   Seems if you have a certain space you are wanting to fill, you'd want to know the actual size of the ruffle as well!

Some lovely works here for those of you who love to create these lovely pieces.  I've listed most of the doilies individually in my shop, as identified by a link below the picture,  if you are interested in working a few of these beauties.

Crochet Candle Holder Free Pattern

This is an attractive accessory for your home.  It's a crocheted Candle Holder.
And, what's better than a crocheted candle holder?   Well, that would be a free pattern for a crochet candle holder.

Crochet Candle Holder Pattern, Camellia Flower Shape

The insert that holds the candle is a round plastic insert from a zipper package in 1959 .... so think of this as a vintage recycle piece as they are no longer available.  You'll have to get creative to come up with a replacement, or perhaps apply several coatings of shellac to the inside opening to stiffen and protect.
