I found this generally great information on the last two pages of Coats and Clark's Booklet 104 (public domain) and wanted to share it with you.      Yes, I imagine this is pretty 'old hat' info to many of you seasoned crochet artists .... but, just in case there is a newbe around .....

Oh, and for shameless self promotion, if you happen to need a crochet pattern to try out these tips, I have ALOT of them in my shop.   Thanks for dropping by,

Knitting Crochet Pattern Accessory Boutique American Thread Star Book 226

This book is all about accessories ...hence the name Boutique.   It contains a nice assortment of scarves and hats, for him and her, along with some stockings, belts and even a vest.   Based on the individual styles, I'd think they would would be from the late 1960s.  This is American Thread, Star Book 226,

Knitted and Crocheted Boutique
The front cover gives us a heads up to the contents.   In this case, mostly accessories.

His and Hers Aran Scarf and Hat.  These are knitted.

This is the Her's Side of the above Aran Scarf and hat.   Her hat has a chin strap.   The set continues with knitted mittens and socks.

Red, White & Blue.   This is a knitting/crochet pattern.   Create this His and Hers set and let it become your 4th of July standard !

The Mesh Crochet Knee-High Socks has the fun whimsy going off with the bit of fringe at the top.    These are sized small to medium, medium to large.
Looking for some extra attention at an upcoming event .... Well, these just might be the ticket !  Mesh crochet stockings (upper thigh high).    The are also sized small to medium, medium to large.

Also included here are instructions to make the Knotted Belt.    For fun, try adding in an assortment of beads.

Crocheted Scarf and Beret - One size

This piece if officially called 'The Twenties Flip'.   It's a nice floppy hat, for sure.   It is crocheted with braided trim.

Here's a set of wide ski scarves.   One is a Block set and the other is the Two Tone Set.  Both are knitted .   Make them up for 'hers' as well.

Here's another 'His & Her's potential Scarf Set.  The Barber Shop Stripe and the Hit & Miss.   Both pattern variations include a matching hat.   Both sets are knitted.

This is an attractive set - the Mesh Snood and Scarf.   The scarf has just a touch of fringe at the ends.   Both are crochet.

Although this appears to be a vest in the picture, the Black, White and Woven set is for a Scarf and matching Hat.    This set is crocheted.

This pretty little vest is the Gypsy Bolero.   It is crocheted and sized Small, Medium and Large.
This is a cute accessory - it's the Tassle Belt.  This is a crochet pattern and is One-Size, which fits 10 to 16.

This extra wide scarf is a Shell Stitch Stole, which alot of fun fringe at the bottom.   It is crocheted.

And, the back cover, as is usual for American Thread, is the same as the front cover.    (Helps keep costs down, you think?).

So, that's it ... Knitted and Crocheted Boutique contains an abundance of accessories that just might be the ticket to to warmth or whimsy !   Or, perhaps a little of both.

Hope you enjoyed the photo-journey.

Favorite Crochet Patterns Old and New Coats & Clark's Book 104 Doilies Tablecloths Runners

This booklet, No 104 by Coats & Clark's is titled Crochet Favorites -- Old and New.   It features a Collection of what was considered old and new back in 1959 ... That's more than 50 years ago !!!    And for those that still appreciate the beautiful intricacies of this type of crochet, these doilies, tablecloths and more, will remain beloved patterns.

Let me show you what I'm talking about .....

Crochet Favorites, Old and New
Crochet Tablecloth Bedspread pattern book 104 from Coats Clarks
S-945 : Harvest Tablecloth takes center stage on the front cover.   It is made up of 4-1/2 inch wheat motifs to form a finished cloth measuring 63 x 83 inches.

No 744 Star Wheel Placemat is made up of round 4 1/4 inch motifs.  This may be billed as a placemat, but it has other possibilities.

Vintage Crochet Edging Pattern, Rose Petals
A-137 Rose Petals Handkerchief Edging to attach to an 11 /12 inch rolled edge.  This pattern is available as a free download.

A-138 Laurels Chair Set - Stitch this for a classic chair set, or expand on the pattern and go for table runners or cloths.   It's quite an attractive motif.

No 7050 Queen Ann's Lace Tablecloth.  This piece is classic Coats & Clarks and close variations are found dating back to the 1920s.

S-393 Ripe Wheat Doily - a pretty and dramatic piece.   Substitute threads and needles to create sizes between 13 and 17-1/2 inches.

S- 815 Ripe Wheat Runner - a great compliment to the Ripe Wheat Doily above.  This is one where you also substitute threads and hook size to create a different sized runner.

Round Rose Cloth Filet Crochet Pattern
A-139 Bouquet of Roses - This large (20 inches in diameter) beauty is filet crochet.

No 7144 Lucky Star is a pleasing motif runner measuring 13 1/2 x 40 1/2 inches.

Vintage Enchantment Crochet Doily Pattern
A-140 Enchantment - This is a finely stitched Large Doily, measuring 19 1/2 inches in diameter.

A-141 Silver Scroll Tatted Doily - This plain, but quite attractive piece is 12 inches square.

Crocheted Rose Bower Bedspread Pattern in flower blocks
S-626 Rose Bower Bedspread graces the back corner.  It is made up of alternating Rose and Plain 6 inch motifs.   This piece would be on its way to heirloom.

These lovely pictures represent all of the projects contained in this booklet.    I think they are all lovely, but have to admit that I'm exceptionally fond of the Enchantment Doily.    I've scanned the reworked these patterns to crisp clean quality and they are available in my shop, as indicated by the links under the pictures.

Hope you enjoyed the book review.

Sweaters Cardigns Accessories Knit Crochet Patterns American Thread Star 156

Here's another of the American Thread Pattern Booklets.  It is Sweaters, Cardigans, Slipovers and Accessories for Him and Her The price of 29 cents would place it around 1968.   Here, American Thread step away from the outrageously whimsical (you know, lambs reclining on afghans) for a more subtle for of whimsy.     Hope you enjoy the tour of the booklet.

Star Book 156
Knit Crochet Patterns for Sweaters, Cardigans, Accessories
The front cover starts with a nice preview of two of the patterns.

Striped Pullover Vest Knitting Pattern, Vintage 1960s

They are calling this a Knitted Popover.  Others may think of it as a vest or a tabbard.  Whatever name, it was mainly an overblouse in the 1960s, but could be a stand-alone top now.

How's this for a Prop ... this man is leaning a rifle !  As pictured, the vest has a bit of whimsy going on.  Make it in two shades of a single color, however, and it could be quite striking. The Cardigan is knitted and sized 38, 40 and 42.

Knitting Pattern Cable Cardigan with Embroidery Detail
Misses Cable Sweater, with or without embroidery.   A great looking cabled cardigan that can take on a whole new dimension with the addition of small lazy daisy flowers added inside the cables.

,Vintage Cardigan Knitting Pattern, pockets, contrast trim
This simple, yet lovely knitted jacket, is a vintage Vera Maxwell design.

This gentlemen, in the roll of French Horn player handsome in a Classic Ribbed V-Neck Sweater

And here we have a woman, wearing what they are call a Raindow Knit Sweater and Headpiece, petting the bird ornament on a weathervane !   I have to say, although I like the sweater, I really like the hat !   This set is knitted and crocheted.   It is sized for both men and women at Small, Medium and Large. (Womens 32 - 38 and Mens 36 - 46).  I'm not sure I see either the sweater or the hat on a man.

Here we have a very nice pair of matching motif Rainbow Ski Socks.

This woman, delighting in the parakeets, is wearing the ever attractive Popcorn and Embroidery sweater.   This pattern is knitted (some crochet) and a separate chart is included for the embroidery.    It is sized Small, Medium and Large.

Vintage Moppet Slippers Knitting Pattern
These slippers are more than appropriately called 'Moppets'.  The are knitted and sized Small, Medium and Large.   This pattern is featured as a FREE DOWNLOAD in my shop, as well as pocked a little fun at in a separate blog post.

Aran Knit Sweaters Pattern

Adding whimsy to these elegant  Fisherman Sweaters would be a shame ... and I'm happy to say they didn't go there.   These sweaters are knitted and sized Small, Medium and Large.

Tasseled Stocking Cap Knitting Pattern Vintage American Thread
This hat, called the Ribbed Topper, is quite cute with a personality all its' own.  This 'Topper' is knitted.

This is another Beauty in this booklet.  Pauline Trigere, top Fashion stylist, designed this Handsome Slip-over.   It is knitted (with crochet) and sized Small, Medium and Large.

This Man's Cardigan is knitted with a checked pattern stitch and has a 'not so common' shawl collar.

textured knit cardigan pattern, vintage American Thread
This Large Collared Textured Cardigan  is a downright beauty !

Knitting Pattern three quarter sleeve cardigan with open front
This is a soft and feminine Crochet Jacket with braid trim.  A perfect example of when less can be more.   It is also the only crochet pattern in the book

The back cover has a color recap of two of the patterns.    This is a slight difference from most American Thread booklets.   Typically, the back cover is a repeat of the front.

I think this booklet, overall, has some nice patterns.  And most of them, as fashionable now as they were then.   I particularly love the knitted headpiece.   Too bad that I 1) don't know how to knit (it is on my bucket list) and 2) it's not too appropriate in this humid southern climate.

These patterns are listed in my shop, should you be interested.   Just follow the links under the pictures.

Family Sports Knit Crochet Patterns American Thread Star Book 219

Here's another pattern book from American Thread that I've recently processed for the shop.  I'm sharing it here with you as well, as a photo journal of sorts.   This is in the Star Book series and was a promotion for ....

Ready ....
Family Sports contains knit and crochet patterns sized 2 through 44.  The cover is a preview of three of them.

This pattern is called - The Indian Charmer; Nehru Jacket.   I don't know anything about it being an Indian charmer, but it is indeed charming.   AND, the father-son matching sizes make it even more delightful.   This is a knitting pattern, sized 2 - 14 for boys and 36 to 44 for men.

The Daisies tell a fashion story in this sweet crocheted sweater.   The pattern is sized 4 - 12 girls and 10, 12, 14 for the ladies.   (a separate chart is included for the daisy motif).

This pattern is a His & His matching sweater ... and won't those special guys in your life look great in this !  This is a knitting pattern.   It is sized 4 - 12 boys and 36 - 42 men.

Titled:  A Jacket to Ruffle his Heart - Lady's Ruffle Jacket.  This is a knitting pattern sized 4 to 14 girls and 10 - 16 ladies.

Mother and Daughter Aran Dresses are three quartered sleeved from mom and long sleeve for toddler; both are minis.  This is a crochet pattern sized 2, 4, 6 for the toddler and 14, 16, 18 for the mother.   This pattern/picture is also shown on the front cover.

Ready for the cold, blustery day out together ... here's the Mother & Daughter Turtle Neck Sweaters.   These are knitted.   The girls sweater is sized 4 - 12 and the Ladies sweater is 10 -16.

Another Heart Ruffle Pattern.   But, this time, the ruffle is at the hemline and the heart is in the weave.   This is a crochet pattern sized 2 - 8 for children and 10 - 16 for ladies.

Red Hot and Blue Striped Dress.  (Wonder why they left out mention of the white?).  This is a knitting pattern sized 2 - 8 for children and 10 - 16 for misses.
This pattern is offered free in 'freebee' section, just for fun.

And, as American Thread frequently do, the back cover is exactly the same as the front !

Did you enjoy the photo-journey?   Is the Nehru Jacket your favorite ... it's mine; or perhaps it is just the little boy !
