Doreen Dolls Dress Crochet Pattern Book 102

Doreen Dolls Books, from the early 1950s, contained exquisite crochet patterns meant to make a little girls' heart swoon!.  This particular book is no exception.  The majority of the patterns are designed for 8" character dolls, however, there are a couple (such as our cover girl, Doreen), that are 11" dolls.
This booklet is picture intensive; perhaps not for those with dial-up.   But, for all the rest, a real delight in small doll patterns.      Here we go ....

Doreen Dolls, Volume 102 

 The front cover previews several of the delights to follow. 

Connie (250)   Pattern includes little ruffled dress, bonnet and booties for an 8" doll. This pattern is created with Baby Yarn and 1 yard of baby yarn and a steel #0 crochet hook.

 Park Avenue Belle (251)  This pattern includes the dress, purse and bonnet for an 8" doll (doggie not included).   To create, you need 250 yards of Bedspread Cotton, 1/2 yard of ribbon and a steel #3 crochet hook. 

 Sunbonnet (252).   This pattern includes the dress, overskirt and the hat for an 8" doll.   The picture shows a purse, however, I do not see it as part of this pattern.   To create this set, you'll need Crochet Cotton, ribbon and a steel #10 crochet hook.

 Jean & John (253):  This is a His and Hers Pattern for 11" baby dolls.    To create, you'll need Cotton Yarn and a #00 steel crochet hook.

 Bridesmaid (254):  Although there are three 8" dolls shown in the picture, the dress, hat, panties (yes, panties) and bouquet are the same.   To create this bridal ensemble you'll need Pompadour, Nylon, Germantown or Sport Yarn as well as a #3 crochet hook.

 Marilyn (255) - This pattern, for an 8" doll includes the ribbon entwined dress, hat, panties and bouquet.   The pattern calls for Pompadour, Nylon or Sport yarn, ribbin and a #3 bone crochet hook.

 Flora Dora (256) - This outfit, for an 8" character doll, includes the frilly dress, panties, bonnet, muff.   I do not see a section for the slippers; perhaps they are just a tied pom-pom.   To create this outfit, you'll need Baby Yarn or Baby Pompadour and a #3 bone crochet hook. 

 Jenny and Jimmy (257):   Here's another his and hers set for 11" baby dolls.   You'll need Pompadour, Sport or Nylon Yarn, along with a #6 bone crochet hook to complete these outfits. 

 Party Girl (258) -  This pattern highlights a wonderfully twirly dress, along with panties and a hat for an 8" doll.   To create this outfit, you'll need Crochet Cotton, ribbon, elastic and a #10 steel crochet hook. 

Parasol (259) - This outfit is sure to delight any little girl, including the dress, hat and parasol for an 8" doll.   The picture shows bloomers; which I do not see as part of the printed pattern.  To create this set, you'll need  #30 Crochet Cotton and a #10 steel crochet hook.

 Skater (260) - This absolutely adorable skating outfit includes the dress and the hat for an 8" doll.   To make it, you'll need Baby Yarn, Baby Pompadour or Nylon, as well as colored sequins and beads and a #0 steel crochet hook. 

Betty and Bob (261) - This his and hers set includes pants, jacket hat and booties for the boy, and dress, jacket, panties and booties for the girl.   They are designed for the 8" doll.   To create, you'll need Baby Yarn, Pompadour or Nylon, along with a #3 bone crochet hook.

Doreen (262)  Here's our cover girl !  This pattern is for an 11" doll and includes the dress, bonnet, panties and (unseen) booties.   You'll need Baby Pompadour, Nylon or Sport Yarn, along with ribbon and a #00 steel crochet hook to create it.

And, on the back cover, another picture of our cover girl, Doreen, standing up.

Bravo Mexico, Columbia Minerva, Knitting Crochet, Sweater Dress Patterns,

This particular pattern booklet, Columbia Minerva 761, Bravo Mexico is full of Spanish Flair.   This means bold colors, floral accents and design surprises that are out of the ordinary.  There are also a number of 'out of the box', or perhaps I should say 'over the top' designs, but fun in a lighthearted sort of way,   The majority of the patterns are knitting, many involve crochet details as well.

Here we go .... picture by picture ....

Columbia Minerva, Bravo Mexico

 The Banderillas Pullover (761-1) and the Banderillas Dress (761-2) are shown on the front cover.   This pattern set is knitted with the edges and flowers crocheted.  They are sized 10, 12, 14 and 16. 

761-3 - Matador Pullover:    This striking piece is appropriately called the Matador Pullover and will make a bold accent piece for slacks and skirts.  This pattern is knitted (the ball fringe and buttons are purchased). 

761-4 Quetzal Pullover Sweater:  This pattern definitely yells FUN.  (can you hear it)?   You can, of course, leave off the tassel fringe, but why would you want too !    This pattern is available as a free download in the shop.  

  761-5 - Poncho Pullover:   It's definitely not a poncho, but it is attractive. The crocheted pullover has a marvelous keyhole neckline surrounded with colorful embroidery.

 761-6  Conchero Poncho is more tabard in style with open sides and ties.
761-7  Embroidered Conchero is an easy knit shell with colorful embroidery and ball fringe.

 761-8 Malinche Jacket - A lovely open front jacket, knit with crochet edges and purchased braid and lace.
761-9 Boda Dress is a two piece affair with long tunic with boat neck and long raglan bell sleeves.  Crocheted lace form rows.  It is paired with a straight skirt. 

 761-10 Torero Pullover has delightful floral front yoke detail, with full cuffed sleeves and a tie at the neck.    

 761-11 Malaguena :  This ribbed dress is not only fashionable, it looks downright comfortable.   

 761-13:  The Tamrinda Pullover is knitted with a crocheted Greek Key design at the hemline and sleeves at elbow level.  

 761-12:  The Soleares Pullover is a 60's smock top of sorts, with an accompanying straight skirt.

 761-14:  The Algerias Dress is perfect for summer.   It is a straight dress with a lowered neckline, shoulder straps and a interesting large scale floral embroidery 

 761-15 Acapulco Pullover:, with round collar and long belled sleeves has a touch of bold
whimsy with the crocheted trim.
    

 761-16 Toluca Pullover jumps out with the closed bell elbow length sleeves and floral
detail across the yoke.

 761-17 Azteca Pullover:  A simple pullover sweater with long sleeves and crochet motif on the front.
761-18 Corrida Jacket:   This simple knitted jacket gains WOW factor with elaborate crocheted trim.

And, the back cover is the same as the front.

Large Stole Knitting Pattern Free from Coats Clark Book 187

Coats and Clark's officially call this .. The Big, Big Stole.    And, they definitely got that right !   

Under the right circumstances, this stole would be big enough to warm two ... you know, like knit it in school colors and share it at the game!.   Actually, I think this would be a perfect to keep on the couch for those slightly cooler evenings you want to wrap yourself up.    

This pattern is from Book 187, Timesaver Designs, was issued by Coats and Clarks.  I've posted a photo-journal of the entire book, if you are interested, here in the blog.

Knitting Crochet Patterns, Timesaver Designs, Coats Clarks Book 187

Here is Coats and Clark's Book No 187.  It was issued back in 1968 and contains a nice variety of sweaters and pullovers; mostly for her and all on the bulky side (using large size knitting needles and crochet hooks).   There's also some hats, a shawl and two afghans.    And, to be fair, they even included a sweater for him.   The majority of the patterns are knitted, some with crochet finish.   A couple are all crochet.

Timesaver Designs to Knit and Crochet 

 The front cover gives us a color sample of three of the patterns.  

 B-675:  Boat-Neck Pullover (shown in color on the front cover) with three quarter sleeves is knitted with 1 inch in diameter needles.   It is sized Small (8/10), Medium (12/14) and Large (16/18)

 B-676: Cable Panel Pullover (shown in color on the front cover), created with 3/4 inch
diameter knitting needles and finished with a Size K crochet hook.  It is sized Small (8/10),
Medium (12/14) and Large (16/18).

 B-677:  Mock-Cable Jacket (shown in yellow on the front cover) is knitted with 3/4 inch diameter needles and finished with a size K crochet hook.  It is sized Small (8/10), Medium (12/14), and Large (16/18).

 B-678:  Moss-Stitch Striped Dress (shown in color on the back cover) has elbow length sleeves and above knee length.   The panels give it nice visual interest (do you hear the 60's shouting with the weave stockings?).  It is knitted with a 1" in diameter needles and finished with a Size K crochet hook. 

 B-679:  Block Stitch Pullover (shown in color on the back cover) also features a boat neck and (slightly above) elbow length sleeves.   This would be great paired with skinny jeans.   It is created with 1 pair, 3/4 inch in diameter, knitting needles.  It is sized Small (8/10), Medium (12/14) and Large (16/18).

 B-680:  Honeycombed Pattern Coat (pictured in color on the back cover).  A loose fitting beauty with great textural pattern.  This pattern is Knitted with 3/4 inch diameter needles and finished with a Size K crochet hook.  2 large buttons and 2 large snaps are also required.   This pattern is sized Small (8/10), Medium (12/14) and Large (16/18).

 B-681  Chevron Strip Afghan  -  It is knitted with needles 1 inch in diameter.
The finished afghan measures 23" x 70".

 B-682:   Crochet Strip Shell and Matching Zippered Jacket.  (This may be too warm worn together, but great separately).   This pattern calls for a Size Q Crochet Kook, a 3/4-inch dowel, a hook and eye for the Shell and a Heavy Jacket Zipper for the sweater.   It is sized Small (8/10), Medium (12/14) and Large (16/18). 

B-683 - A Crochet Beret (bottom left)

B-684 - A Knit Beret

B-685:  The Big, Big Stole.  This stole measures 25" x 76", excluding fringe.   It is knitted with needles 1 inch in diameter.   

 B-686:  Stripe Patterned Afghan.   This super easy afghan measures 44" x 62" and is knitted using 1 pair of 1 inch diameter needles. 

 B-687:   This Man's Cable-Panel Sweater is the 'one obligatory pattern for him'.   It is knitted with needles 1 inch in diameter and finished with a Size K crochet hook.   It is sized Small (36/38), Medium (40/42) and Large (44/46)

And, last but not least, the back cover featuring three of the patterns in color. 

Some nice patterns in here, all very representative of their time period .... 1968.    And, some still retain fashion appeal in the 2010s.

Doily Pattern Book148, Old New Favorites by Request, Coats & Clarks

I do not know how to crochet, however, when I pick up booklets like this one, filled with lacy doilies, tablecloths and such, it makes me so wish to create this type of beauty.   Now, I'm not sure what I would do with them, once created, but they do call me.   All of the patterns in the book are crochet or tatting in mercerized thread, with the exception of one knit pattern, so the knitting fans are not totally left out.

Old and New Favorites, by Request

This is the Shining Star Tablecloth.  Each square measures 5" square and requires 40.5 yards of thread.  Instructions are given for a small cloth (63" square) and a large cloth (63" x 83"). 

 This is the Magnolia Blossom (A-476), A beautiful centerpiece with raised petals.  It's perfect on an end table, or as a daily under your most important lamp.   The Centerpieces measures 20" in diameter.

 The Rosewhirl Doily has Irish crochet roses surrounding a pinwheel center.    It measures 12" in diameter. 

 The two patterns that go with this picture are edgings.   The top is the Zig Zag edging and the second is called the Filigree Shell edging.  Both are designed for an 11" handkerchief. 

 This is the Fishnet Pillow.  First the background is crocheted in simple double crochet, then the mesh is crocheted over it, using chain stitch.   The finished pillow is 12" square.  The back can be either crocheted or fabric.  

 This is the Pretty Pineapples Chair Set.  The ever-popular pineapple is a design reminiscent of oriental bead curtains.   The chair back measures 13" x 19" and the arm pieces are 9" x 13". 

 The Victorian Nosegay Bedspread; a beautiful patter with all the charm of great-grandma's hand-pieced quilt.  Each motif measures 7 1/4" from point to point. 

 

 These picture represent 5 crochet patterns offered up as -- Chose Your Favorite Motif; Make What You Wish! ; crocheted or tatted, make of it what you will.  All are suitable for tablecloths, placemats, end table doilies, char sets and pillows.  We give you the size of the motif and the amount of thread it requires so that you can figure out how many motifs you will need for your purposes and how many balls of thread. 

Snowflake Tablecloth, One of the fastest-working designs you are ever likely to crochet !  Each motif measures 4" across center.  The finished cloth measures 60" x 76".

Polka Dot Potholder and Hot Plate Mat; easy to crochet and quick to catch compliments.

Baby Breath Tatted Edging.  An edging so dainty that, worked all in one in white, it it lovely enough for a bride on her wedding day. 

The Shell Stripes Potholder 6" x 7.25".  You'll also need a bone ring.

Honeysuckle Doily; An elegan design that makes a truly welcome gift.  The doily measures 14" in diameter.

Snow on the Mountain; for those who prefer to knit, a beautiful doily that challenges your skill, but gives a lasting reward of pleasure.  The doily measures 19" in diameter. 

And, last but not least, the back cover with a color picture of the Magnolia Blossom Centerpiece.
