Star Baby Book 43 Knit Crochet by American Thread Co

The pictures in this book are so sweet that they, over and over again, brought a smile to my face.   I smiled at first glance, I smiled through scanning, and I'm smiling while writing this.   I'm going to venture a guess, that by the time you finish the looking at the pictures, you'll be smiling yourself.  

This is Star Baby Book No 43.   It's from American Thread company; all the way back to 1946.   It contains knitting and  crochet patterns, mostly geared for baby and Toddler.   Patterns that require both knitting and crochet are clearly identified.  I'm making most of the patterns available individually, should you be interested. 

Even if you are not looking for knitting or crochet patterns, I think you'll enjoy the picture show.    Let's get started.  

The front covers gives us 'A Kiss'.   Only downside here is the garment details really are not highlighted.

No 4301 - 2-Piece Suit sized 1 to 1.5 years.   This is knitted with one pair each of Bone Knitting Needles No 1 and 3 and also calls for a Bone Crochet Hook No 2.   The set is short pants and sweater. 

No 4302 - Cardigan is sized 1.5 to 2 years.  It is knitted with bone needles No 3.  

No 4303 - Crocheted Soakers are created. with a Bone Crochet Hook No 2

No 4304 - Knitted Soakers are stitched with 1 pair Bone Knitting Needles No 6

Okay, so soakers are just functionally cute; but the sketches are delightful. 

No 4306 - Toddlers Housecoat sized 1 to 1.5 years.  This pattern is created with both knitting and crochet; calling for 1 pair each Bone Knitting Needles No 1, No 2 and No 4 as well as a Bone Crochet Hook No 2.   You will also need narrow ribbon and 7 pear buttons.

No 4307 - Crocheted Baby Set includes the Jacket, Bonnet, Booties, Mittens and a Carriage Cover.  These are created using Bone Crochet Hook No 2 or No 3 and a Steel Crochet Hook No 4 or No 5. 

 4308 - Surplice Sweater sized for 6 months.   It is knitted with one pair Bone Knitting Needles No 3.  You also need 2 buttons and 2 snap fasteners. 

4309 - Smocked Sweater is sized for 1.5 years.  To make this wonderful sweater, you will need one pair each of No 1 and No 3 Bone Knitting Needles and 4 double pointed Knitting Needles No 3.   This also requires a bit of crochet, using a Bone Crochet Hook No 2.

4310 - Knitted Set sized for babies 

Carriage Cover - 1 pair Steel Knitting Needles No 3

Sacque - 1 Pair Bone Knitting Needles No 3

Cap - 1 Pair Knitting Needles No 3 and No 1

Mittens - 1 Pair Bone Knitting Needles No 3 

4311 - Legging Suit, Cap and Mittens are sized 6 months to 1 year.  Create this set with 1 par each Bone Knitting Needles No 3 and No 4 and 4 double pointed Bone Knitting Needles No 3 for Mitterns.  You'll also need 9 small buttons.

4312 - Child's Sweater is sized for 2 years.  Make this one up using a Bone Crochet Hook No 2 or No 3

4313 - Puff Stitch Baby Set consists of a Jacket and a Bonnet and Booties.  It is crocheted with a Bone Crochet Hook No 2 or No 3.

4314 - Mr Duck (actual height not stated)  This quacker is made with Bone Crochet Hook No 5 or 6.  Your also need buttons for eyes and, of course, stuffing. 

4315 - Infants Knitted Shoulderette.  This wonderful little garment is created with 1 pair each on Bone Knitting Needles No 1 and No 3. 

4316 - Puff Stitch Bunting is crocheted with a Bone Crochet Hook No 4. 

ARE YOU SMILING ?    I personally love Mr. Duck as well as the bunting and the housecoat.  But, alas, there are no babies in our life and our Son doesn't seem to concerned with the grandbaby requests.     The age of the pattern book stands out with vintage words such as Surplice and Shoulderette.   But, regardless of pattern age, any baby or Toddler would look just as cute as these models.
