Aunt Lydia's Book 177, Sweaters Knitted and Crocheted

This whimsical booklet has 1960's written all over it!   Not only does it contain a nice variety of sweaters for both men and women as well as a couple afghans, but also a delightful array of vintage picture styles.   This American Thread book was issued as a promotion for their Aunt Lydias Heavy Rug Yarn.
American Thread, Book 177
What wonderful cover art !  Perhaps many of you might remember these old
TV and Stereo combination sets.   Did you, perhaps dance in your living room?

Here's the set just modeled on the front cover.  Mens and womens crocheted cardigan sized at 10 - 16 for her, and 38 - 44 for him.

Afghan Fantasy - This square block afghan is marvelous in the earth tones -- and super easy as well.  It miss measure 53 x 73" when completed.

Mens Knitted Sweater, S-M-L and Womens Striped Poncho - One Size.   This couple and scenario, interacting with the records are also featured on the back cover.    The backdrops are same as front cover .. perhaps these are friends and/or their children.

The Long Pullover  has warm and comfy written all over it.  This is a knitting pattern sized Small and Large.  Remember those flip hairdo's?

Beginners Stripped Slippers Crochet Pattern
Crocheted Slippers, sized S-M-L - these crochet striped pretties are not only an easy beginners project, but you'll have something warm and sturdy to wear as well.
This patterns is offered for free in a separate blog post

Man's Raglan Slipover (You can wear it, too).  Sweater is knitted and sized S-M-L.   I love the title insinuation that only a woman would be knitting this ... versus a His & Hers type title.

Rah Rah Striped, Knitted Sweater sized Small (34 - 36), Medium (38 - 40), and Large (42 - 44)

Sand and Sea Afghan.  A wonderful blocked afghan is knitted with crochet edges.   Match some color matching, this beauty will match any decor.   The finished piece measures 50 x 68 inches.

Four Button Cardigan (knitted lengthwise).   Size S-M-L.  Now, the big question.   Would this cardigan look as funky if it were NOT worn by a man with that particular expression on this face (not to mention the skinny tie).

The Crocheted Eton, sized S & M.   Notice it's the same model with the great flip?

The Knitted Shell, sized S-M-L.   Note the small shell at the lower edge?  This is obviously an accessory; it is not part of the pattern.   Great fashion suggestion though .. put our accessories in a 'non-standard' place.   The result is eye-catching.

Cork and Spice, Everythings Nice Crochet Sweater sized 32 - 40.  This one is wonderfully textural without looking bulky.    Have you noticed that the below elbow and/or three quarter length sleeves were very popular in the 60's?

All Around Classic, Knitted Sweater for him and her (although only 'her' gets pictured).   Sized S-M-L for both of them.

The End !

So, what do you think?   Delightful style and art .... or not?   Actually, although the color pages are whimsical, the black and white pictures went to an extreme and placed the models up against a dark panel wall.   Not sure what that is all about !

Overall, it is a fun and whimiscal book with the typical designs and artwork of the 1960s.   I like it.

Thanks for dropping by,
Lorrie
